What holistic beauty means, and why I combine beauty treatments with Reiki

What does holistic beauty actually mean?
Beauty and Reiki might seem like two completely different worlds. One focuses on how we look, and the other on how we feel. But for me, they have always fitted beautifully together.
Holistic beauty simply means caring for the whole person rather than only the surface. Over the years my work has evolved from traditional beauty treatments and advanced skincare into something much more rounded. My clients might book because they want healthier skin, a massage or a little time for themselves, but often what they need is a space where they can slow down, switch off and feel cared for. That is the thinking behind everything I do at Watt A Beauty here in Glasgow's East End.
Beauty can be about so much more than appearance
There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to look good. I love helping women feel confident in their skin, and I love seeing the results that professional skincare and regular treatments can achieve.
But I also believe beauty treatments can offer something beyond the physical results. Think about how you feel when you finally lie down on the treatment bed.
Your phone is away. Nobody is asking anything from you. You do not have to be anywhere else. For the next hour, you get to receive rather than give.
That feeling is just as important to me as the treatment itself.
Where Reiki comes in
My own Reiki journey changed the way I approached wellbeing, both personally and professionally.
Reiki is a complementary therapy originating in Japan. During a Reiki treatment the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the body, and you stay fully clothed throughout. Many people use Reiki as a supportive wellbeing practice to encourage relaxation and a sense of calm. It is not a replacement for medical treatment or healthcare, but it can sit alongside conventional care as part of someone's wider approach to wellbeing.
If you would like to see the options, our Reiki treatments in Glasgow page lists everything from a short restorative session through to a longer balance and reset.
For me, bringing Reiki into my work felt like a natural progression. Instead of thinking about beauty and wellbeing as two separate things, I began looking at the whole person.
When beauty becomes holistic beauty
A facial can care for your skin while also giving your mind permission to slow down. Massage can ease physical tension while creating precious quiet time. Reiki can provide a deeply restful experience without the need to do anything at all.
And sometimes we can combine elements of each.
This is what holistic beauty means to me. It is not about trying to fix everything in one appointment. It is about recognising that how we look, how we feel and how we care for ourselves are usually connected.
What a combined beauty and Reiki appointment looks like
If you are curious but not sure where to start, there are a few gentle ways in.
The simplest is a 15 minute Reiki add on for £15, which sits at the end of a facial or a massage so that you finish your appointment in stillness rather than heading straight back into your day.
There are also treatments designed as a pair from the very start. Reiki and facial massage runs for an hour, easing tightness across the jaw, brow and temples before moving into gentle energy work. Reiki with head massage focuses on the scalp, neck and shoulders. Reiki with back massage is the one to book when your shoulders have been quietly carrying your whole week.
And if you would rather have Reiki on its own, sessions run from a 30 minute reset up to 75 minutes for a fuller balance and reset. Current times and prices are all listed on our treatment pricing page.
Choosing what you need
One of the things I love most is that your wellbeing does not have to look the same every time you visit me.
There may be months when your skin is your priority and you want an advanced facial. Other times, your shoulders are telling you that massage is definitely required. And sometimes you simply want to lie down, close your eyes and experience the stillness of Reiki.
If you are not sure which you need, just ask me when you arrive. Listening to what you need is part of self care too.
Looking after the woman behind the skin
As I have moved through my own life and wellbeing journey, I have become even more passionate about creating treatments that are not solely focused on the outside.
Of course I still love glowing skin and beautiful results. I am a beauty therapist after all. But I also love seeing the difference in someone when they leave looking rested, relaxed and reconnected with themselves.
My final thoughts
That is the heart behind combining beauty and Reiki within Watt A Beauty. Because sometimes we come in wanting glowing skin, and realise what we really needed was an hour to ourselves.
Calm, Connect, Confidence.

Frequently asked questions
Can you have Reiki and a facial in the same appointment?
Yes. You can add 15 minutes of Reiki to the end of a facial or a massage, or you can book a treatment that is designed as a combination, such as Reiki and facial massage. If you are booking online and you are not sure which works best, get in touch and I will help you put the right appointment together.
What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
Everyone experiences it slightly differently. Many people notice warmth, a pleasant heaviness, a gentle tingling or simply a deep sense of stillness, and some drift into a light sleep. Afterwards you may feel calmer and clearer, or a little tired as everything settles, so it helps to drink water and keep the rest of your day unhurried.
Do you need to believe in Reiki for it to work?
No. You do not need any particular belief or experience. Many clients come with an open mind and treat the time as a proper rest, then decide for themselves how they feel afterwards.
Is Reiki safe to have alongside medical treatment?
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice and is widely used as a complementary wellbeing therapy. It is not a substitute for medical care, so please keep following the advice of your GP or specialist. Do let me know about anything relevant, including pregnancy or ongoing treatment, so your appointment can be planned safely.
