The Benefits of Reiki for Stress Relief

Life can be a lot sometimes. Between work deadlines, family commitments, and the constant stream of notifications on our phones, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. That’s why it’s so important to find ways to slow down and give yourself space to breathe. For many of my clients at The Zen Den @ Watt A Beauty in Shettleston, Glasgow, Reiki is that space.

Reiki is a gentle, hands-on (or just above the body) treatment that works with the natural flow of energy in and around you. It comes from Japan and is built on the understanding that when our energy is balanced and flowing freely, we feel better physically, emotionally, and mentally. When it’s blocked or running low, we can feel tired, anxious, or even physically unwell.

In a Reiki session, you simply lie back fully clothed, close your eyes, and allow yourself to relax. I place my hands lightly on or just above certain points on your body, guiding energy where it’s needed. Many people describe feeling warmth, tingling, or a gentle wave of calm moving through them. Others just drift into a deep, peaceful rest. Every experience is unique, but one thing is consistent — clients almost always leave feeling lighter and more centred than when they arrived.

One of the most immediate benefits people notice is how deeply relaxing Reiki can be. Stress often sits in the body without us realising — in tight shoulders, clenched jaws, or a restless mind that won’t switch off. Reiki helps to release that tension and bring you back to a place of stillness. It’s not unusual for people to say they’ve had their best night’s sleep in weeks after a session.

The effects go beyond physical relaxation too. Reiki can help you feel more balanced emotionally. Life throws challenges our way, and sometimes we hold on to feelings of worry, sadness, or frustration without even noticing. A Reiki session can be like hitting a reset button — helping you feel steadier and more able to handle whatever comes next.

Another thing I love about Reiki is that it works alongside everything else you do to take care of yourself. Whether you practise yoga, meditate, see a counsellor, or simply enjoy quiet walks, Reiki fits in beautifully as part of your self-care. It’s completely safe, non-invasive, and gentle, so it can also complement medical treatments or other therapies you might be having.

For many of my Glasgow clients, booking a Reiki session is more than just a treatment. It’s a commitment to their own wellbeing — a way of saying, “I matter, and my health matters.” It’s also a reminder that slowing down isn’t a luxury; it’s something we all need.

As a Reiki Master Teacher, I’ve worked with so many people who have come to me stressed, tired, or out of balance, and have left with a renewed sense of calm and clarity. My role is to hold a safe, heart-led space for you to reconnect with yourself. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need to start feeling like “you” again.

If you’re curious about Reiki, or you’ve been feeling the weight of life lately, I’d love to welcome you into the calm of The Zen Den. Whether you’re brand new to it or you’ve had Reiki before, every session is a chance to pause, rest, and restore.

Book your Reiki appointment today, and let’s give your mind, body, and spirit the care they deserve.
